Budget Friendly Beauty- TK Maxx Haul

I decided to write this post about budget friendly beauty, as in the UK we normally associate this with makeup from places like Boots or Superdrug.

However there is another high street contender that sells not just basic make up, but high end named brands at budget friendly prices.

TK Maxx make up

The shop I am making reference to is TK Maxx. Although I knew they sold make up and beauty, I honestly feel that they have recently stepped up their make up brand game. I say this following my weekend purchases from my local branch.

It’s funny, as the reason I even went to TK Maxx was to get out of the rain. Upon entering the shop and going to the beauty section, I looked at my watch and an hour had passed.

Which Budget Friendly Brands?

Whilst going through their make up, I saw brands such as Tarte, Milk, ABH, Elizabeth Arden and numerous others.

The thing that can often put people off from TK Maxx is that it can often be a chore to find exactly what you are looking for, or there is no order to the way things are laid out.

My honest advice is to not let that put you off, as you are missing out on significant savings.

My purchases

I picked up a total of 5 Beauty products, from the following brands:

Nip + fab

Nip and Fab Night Fix

I have never used any Nip + Fab products, however I have only heard positive things. I picked up the Viper Venom Extreme Night Fix. This particular night cream contains hyaluronic acid and I have wanted to try a product that contains this for a while.

Nip & Fab Viper Venom Night Fix

As you can see the retail price for this is £19.95, however the price I paid at TK Maxx was £4.99.

NYX Butter Gloss Trio

Have been a fan of NYX butter glosses for a while. When I saw that 3 glosses were being sold for £7.99, I grabbed it so fast. I mean I who wouldn’t?

Two of the glosses are colours that I already use, and so that was a bonus in itself. The retail value of the glosses are £17.30.

Estee Lauder

I have only ever used Estee Lauder foundation, specifically the double wear foundation.

Given that I love their foundation, it was only a matter of time before I tried more of this products.

Luckily I found their Vinyl Lip Colour, and it was in a colour that suited my skin tone (hooray).

Estee Lauder Vinyl Lip Colour

This weekend was my first time seeing Estee Lauder at TK Maxx.

Estee Lauder Vinyl Lip Colour

I don’t know if I just haven’t looked properly previously, or if this is a recent thing. Whatever it is I am so here for this (especially as I got it for £12.99 instead of £25…..result!)

Too Faced

I purchased their size queen mascara. To be quite honest, the sole reason I got this was price alone.

Too Faced Queen size mascara

I have never used Too Faced, but having a general idea of their retail prices, I couldn’t say no…it was £5.99 people!

My initial impressions of this mascara are good. The lash brush is huge, although am not sure the size translates in pictures. Am looking forward to finding out if this mascara will be a repeat purchase.

The vintage cosmetic company

Full disclosure here….I hadn’t heard of this brand before. When I saw their false lashes, they just looked so pretty that I wanted to give them a try.

They were only £2.99 and so, even if it turns out that I don’t like them, it’s not too much of a big deal.

Final Thoughts

So as you can see, with the right amount of patience and perseverance, there are amazing bargains to be found.

The great thing about TK Maxx is that their product restock happens quickly and so there are more brands that will inevitably be on sale.

The savings that can he made are insane. Along with my beauty purchases, I also got a book about Coco Chanel which cost £7.99.

This together with everything else came up to £42 and some change.

I know with total certainly, that TK Maxx will now be one of my first beauty stops.

Why not pay a visit and let me know what you get ?.

Ultimate Skin Spa- Vanity Planet

For a while, I have felt that my skincare routine was pretty tight. After years of washing my face and just applying moisturiser, I adopted the regime of cleansing, toning and then moisturising.

I have been doing this solidly for at least two years, and didn’t necessarily think there was anything further I needed to do that could enhance my routine any further.

Well…I was wrong!

Introducing the Ultimate Skin Spa

Ultimate Skin Spa Vanity Planet

A few weeks I was happily watching some YouTube videos like I usually do. On this occasion I was watching a video by Jamie and Nikki Perkins. If you have never watched their videos, Jamie and Nikki are an interracial Australian couple, and their videos focus on their lives as a married couple with two young children.

Anyway Nikki was talking about a facial brush she had started using which turned out to be the Ultimate Skin Spa by Vanity Planet.

From the little I saw, I knew that I wanted to get my hands on it. Luckily Nikki actually had a promotional code which meant that I could get the same at a heavily discounted price.

The usual price is £101.98, however the company Vanity Planet are very good at offering promotions and discounts so do not be put off by the price.

What is the Ultimate Skin Spa?

In the simplest terms its a battery operated facial cleansing brush.

Ultimate Skin Spa facial brush

It comes with 3 different brushes, a daily cleansing brush, exfoliating brush and a silicone brush.

Facial brush and accompanying brush heads

To use you apply your cleanser, either directly on the brush or on your face, switch the brush on and then apply gently to your face.

The brush actually rotates and has two speeds. As it’s rotating it is picking up any dirt, debris and dead skin cells.

Ultimate Skin Spa information leaflet

The reason why I really like this product, is because I am someone that double cleanses. As such I was under the impression that I literally remove everything from my face.

Apparently this is not the case, as upon using this, It still managed to remove further makeup.

The introduction of this product to my skincare routine is undoubtedly going to make such a difference to the overall appearance of my skin. I cannot wait to see the results in say 3 months from now.

The other great thing about this product is that it is cruelty free, which is always a huge plus.

Final thoughts

I will say, this review is based on my experience with the product. I tend to have sensitive skin, but have had no problems with this product.

However not everyone’s skin will react the same, as such I would emphaise caution to those who have skin conditions.

The silicone brush is ideal for those with skin sensitivity, however if you have other issues maybe use the brush a few times a week rather than everyday.

The product comes in a hard case, which makes it easy for travel. Although it may seem pricey, I feel that the benefits ultimately outweigh the cost.

Vanity Planet spin your heart out

Vanity Planet actually have a number of other products and facial brushes so definitely head over to their website if you want to see more.

Till next time xoxo

My Little Beauty Box

Since I started blogging in 2016, I have seen numerous beauty subscription boxes come and go. Given that my main blogging interest is beauty you would think I would have subscribed to my fair share of beauty boxes. This is not the case.

However this has recently changed when I discovered My Little Beauty Box.

Why this beauty box?

The main reason I was drawn to this subscription box, is because it contains full size products. The vast majority of beauty boxes contain small sizes products or one full size product with the rest being small.

Every single product in My Little Beauty Box is full size.

In addition the products are typically well known high end brands.

I actually got my first box in June, and it featured an Yves Saint Laurent contouring Brush, Mac cream colour base, Laura Geller eye shadow palette, Mac lip pencil, and eye lash oil by Bowe.

In addition the box also contains ‘extras’. In the June box the extras were a Laura Geller mascara and a Crunchie bar. They like to include sweet treats ?.

So what’s the cost?

The monthly subscription is £35, which is on the higher scale for beauty boxes. However taking into account the individual prices for each item, you then realise this box is a complete bargin.

The total value of June’s box was £123.99, so as you can see £35 is not so bad after all.

July’s My Little Beauty Box

July’s box contained products to the value of £89.49. The products included:

clinique make-up travel bag

urban decay Big Fatty mascara

Urban Decay revolution lipstick

Elethea revitalising high protection fluid

Laura Gellar retractable powder brush

The extras this month were a soy wax melt by a company called Beautiful Bathing treats and a packet of mentos ?.

Final Thoughts

To date I have only received two boxes, and the third should be arriving soon.

I have nothing but admiration for the My Little Beauty Box team, as putting together such great quality products cannot be easy, especially when starting out.

If you are a beauty or skincare fan, and are considering maybe subscribing to a beauty box, then I would definitely suggest My Little Beauty Box.

If you want more information, or would like to see what was in previous boxes, check out their Instagram.

Till the next time!

It’s been a while…

Hey everyone…. Your girl is back!  It has been a while since I last posted, and I can only apologize; however 2018 started in a way I could never have imagined and I essentially had to take a break from blogging.

I just want to thank all my friends for their support at the time and even up until today. The last few months have shown me that I have the best friends ever!!!!!

Business as usual

Although I have been away, don’t think I haven’t been buying new products; oh no quite the opposite. I think I shopped even more lol….a girl needs to have something to keep her balanced right?

What’s new?
Well one of the things I finally got around to buying is the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation.

I know it has been around for a good while, but as I have so many foundations I didn’t have the need to rush out and buy it. I now know this was a mistake.

All the hype around this foundation is for a good reason. I cannot express how much I love it. When I first got it, I thought I would use it for special occasions only, but it has become my everyday foundation (as I now think my other foundations in comparison were ever so slightly off).

Colour match:
I purchased my foundation in store at John Lewis. The colour match process was done by an electronic device which was placed against my cheek.

Within seconds I was told that my colour is ‘Truffle’. The sales assistant then applied the same and I was instantly won over by the preciseness of the match. It’s like wearing foundation, without wearing foundation if that makes sense lol.

The product comes in a standard 30ml bottle. Upon reading the packaging it states that the foundation stays in place comfortably for up to 15 hours.

I would definitely attest to this; I usually apply the foundation around 7am before I leave for work and to date I have never had to reapply during the day.

There are times when I have gone out after work and got home at 10pm and it still looks good 🙂 (if I do say so myself). Best of all, the foundation is extremely light and non-greasy, which as a sufferer of oily skin is a huge plus point.

If you are still searching for that foundation to make you go “yesssss girl i’m looking fierce” then Estee Lauder Double Wear is definitely worth a try.

If you would like to see more reviews on this product (or any other beauty product for that matter) why not take a look at Reviews.com

This website provides reviews regarding a host of things from foundations, and anything beauty related (like makeup brushes, mascara’s etc.), to household products, basically the majority of things you can think of!

As someone who purchases very few things without checking out online reviews, reviews.com is the ‘one-stop shop’, thus saving you the hassle of individually searching for reviews. As always you can thank me later 😉

It’s great to be back, I hope you enjoyed my first post this year. I promise I have a lot more coming up and I can’t wait to share it with you all.

For now take care xx

Tarte cosmetics- Good for you Glamour set review

There are so many make up brands that I have yet to try, and Tarte cosmetics was one of them. I had seen so many positive reviews about their products and my opportunity came to try the brand recently via QVC UK.

I happened to be channel surfing and came accross a special offer they had for the good for you glamour set

Tarte cosmetics on QVC

QVC special

The set

This comprises of a clay stick foundation (and foundation brush), a palette called ‘ladies night’ that has eyeshadow, blusher, bronzer and highlighter. There is also mascara and to finish a lipgloss and lipstick combination with a make up bag.

Good for you glamour set

What stood out to me is that the clay foundation stick came in darker colours meaning that I was able to buy it. The range has various shades and is suitable for most skin tones, which is always a plus!

Another reason for buying this set, is I thought it would be a perfect introduction to the brand, as it gives the opportunity to try a variety of their products.

Ladies night palette

My verdict

Overall I am impressed and I definitely got a bargin from QVC considering the amount of products that are in the set. The total cost was £37.47. However with VAT and postage the total was just under £50. This is still good when you consider that the foundation stick directly from Tarte cosmetics is usually £35.

I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on QVC as they often have special deals.  The usual price for the set is £65, which although slightly more is still reasonable.

Favourite item

I absolutely love the eyeshadow colours, which are very on trend at the moment with their autumnal hues. The colours have names such as ‘selfie’ ‘clutch’ ‘payday’ ‘own it’. I mean what’s not to love 🙂

Furthermore the actual pigment in the colours is strong, which I love (as it means less application). Eyeshadows which require constant application are one of my pet peeves.

Ladies night clay palette

…and then we have the mascara. What can I say about this ….the packaging is everything!

Lights, camera, lashes mascara

The main thing I love about the products is that they look high end, but at a fraction of the price.

Lip products

Lip sculptor

Furthermore the quality of the products are good…in fact very good.  Since I got this set I have actually purchased some more make up from tartecosmetics.com . The company is in America, therefore shipping costs need to be taken into account, when making a purchase.

However if you subscribe to their email you are sure to receive special offers. They recently did a birthday special and one of the treats was free shipping. How could I let that offer pass me by!

All in all my first daliance with Tarte cosmetics is positive and I am looking forward to getting to try out more of their range.
