Holiday must haves – My Essential list.

Holiday time

It’s that time of year again, when everyone starts going on holiday and one must decide what will be on their holiday must have list.

In less than 3 weeks’ time I am off for a well-deserved holiday to Crete and am at the planning stages of what I will be taking with me.

I promised myself that for the first time ever, I will try to be organized and not leave everything till the last minute.

So as part of my prep, I have decided to do what so many other people have done and compile my own ‘holiday must have’ list.

What are my holiday essentials?

I have to say this is quite hard to condense as I have categories, e.g clothes essentials, hair essentials, makeup essentials etc.

This post will focus on the category of clothes and accessories as this really is the starting point of my packing. So let’s get to it!

1- Summer dresses

Whether it’s a maxi, or above the knee dress (or both) a summer dress or two should definitely be packed. I like to pack dresses that are light and very comfortable to wear. I would say my preferred style of dress tends to be off the shoulder dresses or halter necks.

2- Sunglasses

I love sunglasses whether they are designer or high street, I honestly do not care! I normally take my whole collection, but this time I am going to try to only take 2 pairs….emphasis on try lol

3- Beach bag

I have two bags, which I use as beach bags both are from ClaireaBella. I find jute bags are great as beach bags, as they are very durable which is always a plus when sand is involved.

The bag in the picture above is my small bag, but if I have loads of things to take to the beach I use my larger bag.

4- Jumpsuit / Play Suit

Who doesn’t love a jumpsuit? Together with some fabulous accessories like hoop earrings and bracelets a jumpsuit / play suit is a good idea on any holiday.

5- Cover up / kaftan

I love a cover up, and to be honest I tend to live in them when I am away. I always take a few as they are so lightweight. Last year I purchased this cover up from prettylittlething, which I adore…so best believe I will be taking this on holiday this year!

6- Sun hat

I love rocking a straw hat, especially when I have my sunglasses on….it makes for a great selfie pic! I usually just pick up a straw hat at Primark, but if you fancy splashing out for a hat I would definitely suggest trying Accessorize. They also do a great holiday range.

7- Shorts (and T-shirts)

Are you really on holiday, if you don’t rock a pair of shorts at least once? You can never go wrong with some denim shorts.

In the past I have taken more or less every pair of shoes I have. This year I will be taking, one pair of heels, one pair of ballet pumps, flip-flops / sliders (2 or 3 pairs) and trainers to travel in…as it’s all about being comfortable.

9- Swim wear

Gone are the days where I would confidently rock a two piece lol. It’s about being comfortable and for me that’s wearing a one piece. Even if your going away for a week, take at least 2 swim suits or bikinis. Therefore if one is hanging on the line drying you have another one to wear.

10- Sunscreen

It goes without saying that sun protection is key. Sunscreen should be used by everybody, no matter what skin tone you are.

Don’t forget if your sunscreen is not waterproof, reapply after that dip in the sea!

…so that’s it!

I know there are so many other essentials that I have not included. However this is just an idea as to the things I like to take with me. I hope you enjoyed this post and last but not least….happy holidays 🙂

Tarte cosmetics- Good for you Glamour set review

There are so many make up brands that I have yet to try, and Tarte cosmetics was one of them. I had seen so many positive reviews about their products and my opportunity came to try the brand recently via QVC UK.

I happened to be channel surfing and came accross a special offer they had for the good for you glamour set

The set

This comprises of a clay stick foundation (and foundation brush), a palette called ‘ladies night’ that has eyeshadow, blusher, bronzer and highlighter. There is also mascara and to finish a lipgloss and lipstick combination with a make up bag.

What stood out to me is that the clay foundation stick came in darker colours meaning that I was able to buy it. The range has various shades and is suitable for most skin tones, which is always a plus!

Another reason for buying this set, is I thought it would be a perfect introduction to the brand, as it gives the opportunity to try a variety of their products.

My verdict

Overall I am impressed and I definitely got a bargin from QVC considering the amount of products that are in the set. The total cost was £37.47. However with VAT and postage the total was just under £50. This is still good when you consider that the foundation stick directly from Tarte cosmetics is usually £35.

I would definitely recommend keeping an eye on QVC as they often have special deals.  The usual price for the set is £65, which although slightly more is still reasonable.

Favourite item

I absolutely love the eyeshadow colours, which are very on trend at the moment with their autumnal hues. The colours have names such as ‘selfie’ ‘clutch’ ‘payday’ ‘own it’. I mean what’s not to love 🙂

Furthermore the actual pigment in the colours is strong, which I love (as it means less application). Eyeshadows which require constant application are one of my pet peeves.

…and then we have the mascara. What can I say about this ….the packaging is everything!

The main thing I love about the products is that they look high end, but at a fraction of the price.

Furthermore the quality of the products are good…in fact very good.  Since I got this set I have actually purchased some more make up from . The company is in America, therefore shipping costs need to be taken into account, when making a purchase.

However if you subscribe to their email you are sure to receive special offers. They recently did a birthday special and one of the treats was free shipping. How could I let that offer pass me by!

All in all my first daliance with Tarte cosmetics is positive and I am looking forward to getting to try out more of their range.

My Kiehl’s Skincare Discovery

Who knew?

The saying goes ‘better late than never’. That’s exactly how I feel about Kiehl’s. I know Kiehl’s has been around for the longest time, but I only tried their products for the first time last month…and I do believe that I am a convert.

Kiehl's skincare

I would say that over the last year my skincare is something that I have started paying a lot more attention to. Although it’s taken me a while, I think I have now found the perfect products.

My Kiehl’s discovery started in duty free when I was off on holiday last month.  I decided to purchase the Ultra Facial Cream and the Midnight Recovery Eye. I honestly can’t tell you what I was expecting. A lot of times I can’t actually use products that people rave about because my skin can be quite sensitive. That’s in addition to it being a combination of oily with the odd dry area here and there! (My struggles are real people lol).

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream

My thoughts on Kiehl’s

However I was pleasantly surprised. The cream has the lightest of textures, but is extremely moisturizing without being overly harsh. By this I mean that, my skin didn’t feel like it was saturated in product.

Having used it consistently for over a month now, I do feel like I can see an improvement in my skin. With other products I have used in the past, I tend to moisturize twice a day, but I personally haven’t felt the need to with this. In the mornings I do my usual cleansing and toning and then I moisturize with the Ultra Facial Cream. In the evenings I do the same, and just apply the Midnight Recovery Eye.

Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Eye

Now, my absolute favorite is the Midnight Recovery Eye.  For the longest time, I would wake up in the mornings with my under eye area being so dry. This made me look way more tired than I actually was. I tried everything, from olive oil, coconut oil, vaseline…you name it, nothing worked.

Since using the Midnight Recovery Eye, things have changed. The dryness is no more and my morning face takes much less time to fix lol. Needless to say, if I was given the choice of having only one beauty product for the rest of my life, for me it would be this hands down.

I have recently purchased the Kiehl’s lip balm, and like the other products before I really like. The good thing about it, is that I don’t feel like it needs to be reapplied throughout the day.

Kiehl's lip balm

Although the products do appear small in size for the price paid, I would say it is worth it. A little amount of each product goes such a long way.  So you get your money’s worth.  The thing with beauty and skincare is that it is subjective. What works for one person may not work for another.  But if like me you have been searching for a while, I would definitely recommend at least trying one of the products.  I am already eyeing up what I may purchase from Kiehl’s next. Give it a try. You never know, you might like it 🙂
